Super Captain's Drive In

The big day finally came for our new captains Tom & Theresa's The Captains' Drive-in.

The weather held up and the course was in what can only be described as "unbelievable" condition, "the best yet" some members said afterwards. On behalf of myself and the captains, we would personally like to thank John and his team for the hard work going into presenting the course the way it is... Keep up the very good work.

So it's tradition for the new captains to dress up for the occasion and as we can see Theresa came as Super Women and Tom came as the established golfer. Theresa teed off first and hit a very good shot but unfortunately with a bad bounce went into the pond, Tom then stepped up to the Tee and set a NEW record for the distance his ball travelled.

A great day was had by all and I would like to thank all the members for supporting the captains on this day and we wish them every bit of success this year.

Congratulations to Gary Moore who won the competition scoring 42 points, having just pipped Simon Harris on the back 9 score.

Ladies' Championship - 16th August 2020 The Ladies Championship was once again well supported with all the ladies trying to see if they could stop Katie Symonds lifting the trophy. The going was tough on Saturday and scoring was hard, Katie showed her mental toughness to grind out an 85 but Amanda Hughes- Broadhurst was trying to keep in touch with Katie and didn't want to let her out of her sight and produced an 89 to be 4 shots behind after day 1. Amanda's score also put her joint 1st in the Nett championship along with Alison Scase both on Nett 74, Nicky Whitton just 2 back with a nett 76. The ladies came strong on day two producing some very good golf and scores but Katie was having none of it and wanted to make her lead as big as possible which she did in fine style shooting a 37 front 9. Amanda tried to keep close to Katie but as the round went on Katie got stronger and although had to deal with an unfortunate Rules issue on the last hole she kept her head and coolness to finish the job. Congratulations Katie and well done to Amanda to Finish runner up. Nicky produced some fine golf to score a nett 74 to go with her 76 on Saturday to claim victory by 1 shot from Arleen McQuirk who produced the best score of the weekend with a nett 69 to finish runner up in the Nett Championship.

Club Championships - 16th August 2020 The sky was blue, the sun was shining and the temperature was 18 degrees, what a perfect day for the start of the Club Championships. Over 100 players took part in this year's championship making it one of the best-supported Championships we have had for quite a few years. Jon and his team had set the course up in excellent condition to truly test the field and indeed this seemed to be the case during Saturdays round. Yoni's 77 gross being the best score for most of the day and it wasn't until late on where this score was challenged. Tom Harris (the defending Champion) shot a 74 to tie for the lead with Alex Davies who also shot a 74, Closely followed by Colin Crawshaw and Luke Donnelly who both shot 75. 12 players were all in contention for the Nett prize after day 1 with Jack Etherton leading the way with a Nett 71, only 3 shots between all 12 players. So it was all to play for on the second day. The weather didn't disappoint on the Sunday and neither did the golf. Alex started round 2 on fire producing some great golf to card a 33 front 9 to move 4 clear of Tom who shot a 37 front 9. Colin Also keeping in touch with a 37 front 9, Luke was playing in the group ahead and was quietly going about his business with a very good 36. The wind picked up during the back 9 and scores started to change, Colin slipped out of contention with a back 9 of 43, Alex looked to be going all the way but had an 8 on the 15th and Tom saw the opportunity to hit back. Luke carded an impressive 38 on the back 9 making him clubhouse leader. Alex couldn't find his magic in the closing 3 holes and Tom fought very hard to post a 37 back 9 to Alex's 43, not knowing what Luke had shot it was a nervous few minutes for Tom but was extremely happy to find out he had won by 1 shot from Luke. The closest finish we have seen for many a year. Congratulations Tom. Only 1 player managed to break par over the entire 2 days and that was Paul Pedelty who shot an incredible nett 68 on Sunday. Now, Ped was just very happy to shoot the score and see his handicap drop probably not knowing this score has just put him clubhouse leader for the Nett Championship. With the course playing harder in afternoon wind it seemed no one could finish strong except Luke Donnelly who was fighting for the Gross Championship and may not have realised his strong back 9 scores had just taken him into the winning position for the nett prize, where he would remain and be crowned Nett Club Champion again winning by only 1 shot from Ped.
